GQA Ignites 10th Star Mega Jam

The 10th edition of the Star Mega Jam which held on 17th December, 2010 had the honour of hosting the Grammy award winner, R Kelly. The show also featured several Nigerian acts such as P Square, M1, 9ice, Kaffi, DJ Humility and more. The event which rocked the city of Lagos and its environs was held as usual at the popular Lagos Polo Grounds, Ikoyi-Lagos.

This was not the first visit of R Kelly to Nigeria, nor was it the first time GQ Acoustics was providing sound for the musical icon. Indeed, R Kelly had featured a couple of years back at the annual ThisDay Musical Festival in both Lagos and Abuja.

Without a doubt, neither Kelly’s production crew nor the show organisers were willing to gamble with sound quality. They all specified Meyer Sound gear as the preferred loudspeaker system to be used. They perceived that the best live sound in the country had to be brought on board again, and as usual they were not disappointed. Although R. Kelly himself came on stage rather late, the powerful sound emanating from GQ Acoustics’ superior audio equipment held the audience captive till he appeared. He sang some of his greatest hits like “I believe I can fly” and a host of others.

The venue felt the powerful and pristine throw of the Meyer Sound MILO high powered curvilinear array loudspeakers which was in use as the main FOH loudspeaker system, with an enviable collection of backline also supplied by GQ Acoustics. 12 MJF-212A High-Power Stage Monitors were also used to deliver the accurate reproduction of the bands on stage.

For the musicians to get the same output and an exceptionally uniform frequency and phase response associated with the FOH system, two pairs of MTS-4A Full-Range Main loudspeakers complimented by the 700-HP Subwoofers were stacked on each side of the stage for the singers and the instrumentalists as main Side-Fills.

Among the line of self powered speaker systems used were UPJ-1P as Front Fills with USW-1P Compact Subwoofers to feed the drummers.

MIDAS Heritage 3000, the industry’s standard for analogue mixer was on hand to deliver crisp and refined sound quality on stage.

According to the organisers – Nigeria Breweries Plc, the show was a way to appreciate millions of the Star lager lovers across the country. Suffice it to say that the show did a lot more than that!
